Patron - Tom Pryde
The Board of Sport Southland is thrilled to announce that Tom Pryde has been appointed as Patron of Sport Southland.
Derek Turnbull left big shoes to fill, but Tom Pryde is about as close a fit as possible.
Tom was a founding trustee of Sport Southland in 1990, serving on the board for nearly ten years.
A former senior rugby player, Tom has been at the forefront of Triathlon, Multisport and Adventure Racing in New Zealand, both as a competitor and as a race organiser.
Tom has served on numerous boards and trusts and was President of Triathlon New Zealand. He successfully orchestrated the bid for, and helped organise the World Triathlon Championships held in Queenstown in December 2003 and the ITU Triathlon World Cup in New Plymouth in 2005. The Queenstown event won a NZ Tourism Award.
Tom is well known in Southland as a Trustee of the Halberg Trust, which has dual aims of recognising sporting excellence through the Westpac Halberg Awards along with assisting young people with a disability participate in sport and active leisure.

Member Oreti Life Saving Club 1962-2007, Club captain for about eight years, committee member for many years (about 20), president/club coach/competitor/beach patrol for several years. Tom now acts as mentor and honorary solicitor for the club.
