Jim has the role of assisting school communities in developing a physical activity culture where children choose and enjoy activity.
Jim brings to Sport Southland a background of successful primary school teaching in which he was a school principal for 25 years. Jim has a Batchelor of Arts, an Advanced Diploma in Teaching and a Trained Teacher Certificate.
Throughout his teaching career he was intensively involved with the coaching of a variety of sports and sports administration.
In 2007 he was a regional finalist for the Wattie’s Coach of the Year. While Jim has a keen interest in all sports, he is currently active in basketball and multisport, having competed 6 GoldRushes. He also enjoys duck hunting and keeping himself busy on his farmlet at Makarewa.
Jim passionately believes that life-long personal, social and health rewards accrue for children from their early active participation in exercise and sport.
Jim is active in community affairs and is a member of the Southland Rural Heritage Trust, Friends of the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, Makarewa Lions, Southland Boys' High School Old Boys’ Association.
Jim is married to Julianne with two children, Alice and Fraser.
