Richard Hoskin took up the position of CEO of Sport Southland on 2 February 2009.
Richard is aged 49 years and comes to the role with an impressive sporting and management background. He is best known for his achievements in cricket. In 1978 he was in the New Zealand Secondary schools’ Team, in 1979 the New Zealand Cricket U20 team, 1985 the New Zealand Cricket Team (Tour of Zimbabwe) and between 1980 and 1992 he played first class cricket for Otago.
Between 1978 and 1992 he was Captain of the Southland Cricket Team for five seasons and between 1994 and 1996 he was a member of the Central Otago Cricket Team. Between 1997 and 2000 Richard was an Otago Volts’ Cricket Team Selector and again between 2003 and 2005. In 2005 he was invited to complete the New Zealand Cricket Level Three coaching qualifications. Richard has also played representative golf to a high standard.
Richard has business experience through being owner/operator of Bert Walker Sports in Invercargill in the late 1980s and as Sales Manager for Lockstone Limited for four years from 1989 to 1993. For ten years between 1993 and 2003 he was a franchise owner/operator in Queenstown. He has experience in property management and for four years between 2003 and 2007 he was Chief Executive Officer of the Southland Cricket Association based at Invercargill. Since 2007 he has been employed as Commercial Manager for the Otago Cricket Association.
Richard and his wife Sally have two children.
