Yvette Hodges manages the Active Lifestyles team and began this role in July 2010, having previously been employed at Sport Southland since 2006. A key aspect of Yvette's role within the Active Lifestyles team is as the Green Prescription Area Manager. Green Prescription is one of several Active Lifestyles programmes promoting healthy, physically active lifestyles to Southlanders.
In addition Yvette looks after Sport Opportunity within Sport Southland. Sport Opportunity links people with a disability to sport and active leisure opportunities. Initiatives taking place under Sport Opportunity include applications to the Halberg Trust Activity Fund, 'People Moving' Dance classes, and continual progress towards more active opportunities for people with disabilities. It is hoped that in future this role may expand to allow for a funded half-time position.
Prior to this role, Yvette was employed at Sport Southland as the Active Communities Senior Advisor 2009 - 2010 and the Southland HEHA Programme Physical Activity Advisor from 2006 – 2009 and at the Southland Branch of the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand from 2005 – 2006.
Yvette is a born and bred Southlander, and she has returned to Invercargill after studying at the University of Otago for five years gaining a Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Commerce. Yvette plays soccer and enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding and social physical recreation with friends and family.
