Active Adults

“More Southlanders, more active, more often”

The Active Communities team is committed to the challenge of getting more Southlanders to adopt an active lifestyle.  This is evident in its mission statement to get more Southlanders, more active, more often.  Research supports this mission as it points to sport and recreation as being key to making New Zealand a healthier nation and emphasises the social and economic benefits. Inactivity, and its health consequences, is one of the biggest challenges facing New Zealand over the next decade - active lifestyles help not only prevent illness but also make for more productive and healthier communities through active participation in sport and recreation.
