Frey McLean Cycling Safari: An inspired Active Teens family
Most families love an adventure, yet would they be tempted to go on an eight day cycling safari around southern Southland through the Catlin’s windy hills?
The Frey-Mclean did just that. The family packed up food and clothing into their cycling panniers (bags) added sleeping bags, sleeping mats and tents on top of their rear carrier racks and headed out for their family summer adventure.
On a hot and cloudless day, the first part of the cycling journey was to Tokanui. After stopping at the Tokanui Store for a well deserved ice-cream they carried on into a moderate headwind toward the Catlins Forest. Over the following 7 days, the family ventured up and down the hills and gullies of scenic Southland. They battled headwinds, rain, heat and a lot of early morning starts!
The Frey-Mclean family are part of the Invercargill Active Teens programme, run by Rose French of Sport Southland which helped to inspire their active summer holiday adventure.
