2009 Team

Karl Murray (Auckland)
Previous Tour of Southland Green Jersey winner and stage winner on a number of occasions and the most experienced member of the team.

Ryan Wills
(Whakatane) U23
3rd in Tour of Southland U23 classification last year. Wills is finishing off his last few races in Belgium where he has spent the season racing alongside the best riders in the pro-tour peloton.

Romain Fondard (France)
Fondard is from France and a teammate of Wills. As well as finishing 4th at the Cyclo Cross World Championships, and beating Tyler Farrar in a sprint at the G.P Waregen he podiumed in many races in recent years. "He is well rounded, packs a good sprint and knows cross winds like the back of his hand," said McDermott. "Coming from a cyclo cross background he should be used to the unpredictable weather conditions Southland is notorious for."

Matt Gilbert (Auckland)
Riding for the 3rd year for Share the Road, Matt had his most successful tour in 2006 where he finished 3rd in the Gore stage and was in the top 10 on General Classification for most of the Tour before being blown off the road in the terrible winds on the last day of the tour, effectively ending his tour.

Jack Bauer
(Nelson)
Bauer has spent his first European season in Belgium and gained five wins. "My main goal for the New Zealand season is Tour of Southland - I would love a stage win down in the deep south!" Bauer told RoadCycling last month.

2008

Team

Adam Coker (Auckland) U23
Adam is back riding for Share the Road in 2008, coming back from a back injury in 2007 which ended his season riding overseas for Team Rubicon.  Adam previously rode for Share the Road in the 2005 and 2006 Southland tour's.  A very accomplished young rider who has previoulsy represented Southland on the track and road.
Results in 2008: 1st U23 Auckland Half Distance Champs, 1st U23 Auckland Time Trial Champs, 1st U23 Counties Manukau Club Champs.

Matt Gilbert (Auckland)
Matt is also back riding for Share the Road in 2008 after last riding for the team in 2006.  In 2007 Matt pulled out of the team just 3 weeks prior to the tour after being hit by a car while out training in Auckland.  In 2006 Matt finished 3rd in the Gore stage and was in the top 10 on General Classification for most of the tour before being blown off the rode in the terrible winds on the last day of the tour, effectively ending his tour.

Aaron Lawson (Auckland) U23
Aaron is an ex speed skater currently competing in his 2nd season as a road cyclist.  He completed the tough 2007 Tour of Southland, much to his enjoyment, and also raced in the Nationals and the Tour of Wellington. With much more experience under his belt, but still in a learning phase, Aaron is expecting to build on his result from last year.
Aaron is studying architectural design and racing in Auckland.

Roman Van Uden (Auckland) U23
Roman is another rider to also ride for Team Rubicon in the USA.  A very strong and successful young rider who rode his first Tour of Southland in 2007 and finished 23rd overall.  Roman is coming back from an injury sustained in late July, but expects the month off cycling to provide plenty of motivation going into this years Tour of Southland.

Ryan Wills (Whakatane) U23
Ryan is 20 years old and riding his second Tour of Southland. He has been based in Belgium for the 2008 professional season, finished 4th in the U23 section at Elite Nationals and 17th Overall in the Tour of Luxembourg before suffering a broken wrist which hindered the 2nd half of his 2008 season.  Like Roman he is expecting the time off to provide plenty of motivation.
Ryan is looking forward to riding for Share the Road after being involved in a serious accident in 2006.  While out training, Ryan and 2 friends were knocked off their bikes with Ryan suffering three broken vertebrae, a strained tendon and nine stitches.  He knows the value of wearing his helmet and "Sharing the Road".
