More than 300 competitors took on the Hokonui Hills for the sixth annual MLT Moonshine Trail in a day that tested their skills and their temperament, with the rain falling for most of the day.
Event director, Sport Southland events co-ordinator Sally Hayes, said the rain didn't deter anyone.
"Most people were crossing the finish line with smiles on their faces – although it might have taken some a little longer to let that smile set in," she said.
"It was a fantastic day and the conditions made the ride even better for some mountain bikers – there was plenty of mud and most of them were loving it."
"It's great that the event continues to draw such a wide mix of abilities and that's what it's all about."
