Key HEHA Message: Promote and foster the development of supportive environments that support healthy lifestyles

Guest presenter Shan Jensen-Loach had a dynamic and symbolic presentation to the groups on supporting each other in their roles as health promoters. Shan used her workplace's adoption of a healthy eating policy as a case study showing a real life policy in action in a local workplace (Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu).
Yvette and Stephanie presented on models of health promotion such as the Ottawa charter and the environmental impact on obesity.
Participants were made aware of national and local health programmes that are currently being implemented in New Zealand through a group activity.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

Yvette and Stephanie introduced the concept of motivational interviewing covering the spirit of motivational interviewing and why we might want to use motivational interviewing in our daily practices.  A mock interview was also enacted to show how the  patient/client reacts to standard (or non motivational interviewing style) versus an enactment using motivational interviewing techniques and skills. The goal of motivational interviewing was connected to behaviour change and how by increasing a persons intrinsic motivation we can precipitate behaviour change.
