- In brief, the director is involved in organising sports previously completed by teachers. This allows teachers to concentrate on organising sport within their own school.
- The director is the contact person for schools and regional sports organisations seeking more information on secondary school sport.
- Advice is given to outside organisations on how best to work with schools.
- Information is circulated to the 15 contributing schools on a regular basis by e-mail, fax or post. This includes entry forms to weekly, provincial, regional, South Island and National tournaments plus information received from a wide range of groups with a sporting interest.
- The director will offer to help Regional Sports Organisations in organising South Island or National secondary school events allocated to Otago, which have been sanctioned by the NZSSSC.
- The director will offer to help Regional Sports Organisations in organising regional and provincial secondary school events that are being held in Southland.
- The director will offer to help in draws and the organisation of weekly competitions.
- The director will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of SPARC’s Sportfit initiatives (e.g. SportsMark, Growing Leaders, Sports Choice, Sport Education, and sportSCID).
- While SSSS has been delighted to work alongside many Regional Sporting organisations in the past with the inclusion of years 7 & 8 students in competitions and championships, our prime focus continues to be to secondary school age students i.e. years 9 and above.
- Awarding of places and team trophies for Southland Secondary School Sport events will be awarded to year 9 and above Southland student and/or school in the first instance.
- Participants who gain a placing in a Southland Secondary School Sport event, who reside from outside Southland or are younger than year 9 may be awarded a certificate, or an alternative trophy, such as a ‘Visitors’ or ‘Intermediate ‘ trophy, as the organisers see fit. These participants enter the Southland secondary school competitions/championships accepting this position.
