Sport & Recreation New Zealand, (SPARC) formerly the Hillary Commission is a crown entity formed in 2002 in response to the recommendations of the Ministerial Taskforce on Sport, Fitness & Leisure.
SPARC provides support through investment to a wide range of organisations that make sport happen. This includes RST’s who promote sport and physical activity to people of all ages in the community.
RST’s share SPARC’s focus on sport and recreation. In April 2004 SPARC formally recognised RST’s as key partners and from July 2004 contracted each of the trusts to achieve outcomes articulated in SPARC’s Statement of Intent.
