Board of Trustee Vacancies

As a result of recent trustee rotation Sport Southland is seeking to appoint two new Trustees to its Board, to serve for a four year term.

Sport Southland is one of 17 Regional Sports Trust throughout New Zealand who are contracted by SPARC to increase regional levels of physical activity and to strengthen regional sport and physical recreation infrastructures.

As a major supplier of sport and recreation services and expertise to the Southland region, Sport Southland is a leading advocate on a wide range of issues affecting the sector.  Our major objective is to fully develop sport and physical activity levels in Southland by working alongside a variety of sporting, community and leisure groups in the province.

In accordance with the Sport Southland Board of Trustees policy, new Board members will receive an in-depth Induction package covering the following:

  • The role of the Board, with specific emphasis on the importance of the duties with which the Board has been charged
  • Information on legislation and the implications of working within the “not for profit” sector
  • General information relating to the sport and recreation sector including the below:
  • A presentation by programme staff at Sport Southland to give an overview of the operational activities undertaken by the Trust
  • In addition, full governance training will be provided if deemed necessary.

Expressions of interest are invited from persons who have had or seek governance experience and feel they can contribute to the values of Sport Southland its strategic focus and the delivery of its sport & recreation initiatives across the Southland region.
